President Donald Trump on Sunday called on Congress to swiftly pass his sweeping tax and spending package, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” even as escalating tensions with Iran threaten to consume lawmakers’ attention in the coming days.
“Great unity in the Republican Party, perhaps unity like we have never seen before,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Now let’s get the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill done. Our Country is doing GREAT. MAGA!”
The president has pushed for the legislation to be finalized and on his desk by the July Fourth holiday. The measure includes provisions to make a series of tax cuts permanent and implement significant reductions in government spending.
But the timeline faces new pressure following Trump’s authorization of U.S. military strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend. The United States joined Israel in direct action targeting Iran’s nuclear program after weeks of Israeli operations that included attacks on Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists.
In response, Iran has launched retaliatory strikes, resulting in civilian and military casualties in Israel. Trump’s order to strike Iranian nuclear sites marked the first formal U.S. military action in the conflict and has sparked new threats from Tehran aimed at the United States.
The growing crisis has introduced uncertainty into an already complex legislative process. While the House has passed its version of the tax and spending bill, the Senate is now tasked with reviewing and potentially amending it. If the Senate makes changes, both chambers would need to reconcile the differences before sending a final version to the president.
Complicating the path forward, some components of the bill have drawn scrutiny from the Senate parliamentarian, raising the possibility of further revisions to comply with legislative rules.
Trump also criticized Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., in another post Sunday for failing to support the bill and attacking the president’s actions against Iran.
“Massie should drop his fake act and start putting America First, but he doesn’t know how to get there — he doesn’t have a clue! He’ll undoubtedly vote against the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill, even though non-passage means a 68% Tax Increase for everybody, and many things far worse than that,” Trump wrote.
