President Trump’s approval rating has exceeded his rating during the same period for his first term. A Gallup poll released Thursday shows 45 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s performance so far during his presidency.

The rating reflects high numbers for key demographics among Trump supporters, including male voters, Hispanic and Black voters, and younger voters.

Gallup indicated the increase could be due to a combination of factors. Trump’s higher approval rating could reflect both his increase in popularity and the dissatisfaction with Democrats among key demographics following the Biden presidency. During the Biden administration, Gallup found Republicans held a slight advantage in party identification.

The Gallup poll analyzed the time between the months of January and March. Trump’s 45 percent approval rating reflects the average of each of the three months and shows an increase of 3 points from 42 percent during the same time period of his first term. Trump has increased his approval within the party overall, with a gain of five percentage points among Republicans and seven percentage points among self-identified conservatives.

Notably, the increase in these key groups of supporters has helped to overcome a decrease in support from Democrats. Trump received 5 percent support from Democrats in 2025 compared to 10 percent in 2017.

Gallup’s findings concluded that continued strength for the Republican party would require Trump to maintain his popularity among the traditionally conservative groups while also continuing the outreach to key demographics that are beginning to lean slightly more Republican.
