Rep Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., has introduced H.R. 4864, also known as the “End Birthright Citizenship Act” to ensure that American citizens are not being taken advantage of.

During his podcast on Tuesday, he explained the necessity for the bill.

He blamed Biden, Kamala Harris, and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for encouraging illegal immigrants to enter the United States with the purpose of having children on American soil so they can automatically become citizens.

Matt Gaetz detailed how illegal immigrants are pouring into the country due to the border crisis and said that birthright citizenship creates “chain migration.”

He stated, “Birthright citizenship by fraud has started to predominate in a few areas and a few industries.”

The congressman cited an issue reported on by Breitbart which notes that there are more anchor babies living in the United States than American citizens give birth to each year.

While the U.S. Department of State did amend regulations regarding tourism to deny visa applications from individuals suspected of wishing to travel to the United States to give birth and gain citizenship for their baby in 2020, birth tourism is still a major concern due to the growing border crisis.

Furthermore, the Washington Examiner reported that birth tourism would likely increase due to a new policy instated by the Biden administration in July 2021. This banned customs and immigration departments from detaining or seeking out pregnant women suspected of traveling for birth tourism, reversing the 2020 Trump policy.

Mainstream media outlets like The Guardian may claim that this is a non-issue, but Gaetz described how Mexican illegal immigrants are taking advantage of birthright citizenship. He explained that some are having children within U.S. borders and residing in Mexico to live as Mexicans, but are also sending their children to U.S. schools to use our tax-payer-funded learning institutions.

The public school system is struggling, and this strain is likely to cause further issues. Gaetz noted that illegal immigrants are “taking advantage of us and our foolish immigration laws.”

He implored Americans to, “Call your congressman. Tell them to vote for the End Birthright Citizenship Act of 2023.”
