Hunter Biden will plead guilty as part of a plea deal to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax. He will also enter a separate pretrial diversion agreement on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Fox News.

The White House has demonstrated total support for Hunter and has not commented any further on Hunter’s plea deal.

GOP members including the House Speaker have criticized these minor charges against Hunter Biden in the context of the Trump indictment.

According to a tweet from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif, “If you’re Biden’s leading political opponent, the DOJ will try to put you in prison. If you’re Biden’s son, the DOJ will give you a sweetheart deal.”

Among other high-ranking GOP members, McCarthy is critiquing how it seems the DOJ is taking a biased approach to how Hunter Biden’s and President Trump’s cases are being handled.

Furthermore, the House Judiciary Committee sent a tweet, asking, “If you did what Hunter Biden did, would the DOJ let you walk away with a slap on the wrist?” An interesting question that coincides well with Kevin McCarthy’s tweet, and Hunter Biden’s pretrial diversion agreement.

McCarthy has also noted that House Republicans’ investigation into the Biden family business dealings will not be deterred by Hunter Biden’s plea deal.

Conversely, McCarthy thinks Hunter Biden’s plea deal will in turn boost the House investigation as the “DOJ should not be able to withhold any information now saying that there’s an impending investigation.”

The investigation will continue, and it appears McCarthy has gained access to important records and documents that could be integral to illustrating the Biden family’s business dealings.
