Stacey Abrams announced on Wednesday that she plans to run for governor in the state of Georgia for the second time after a failed attempt against the current incumbent, Gov. Brian Kemp, R-Ga.
Abrams has been a long-time Democrat favorite, as Democrats have suspected another run since her first loss. Abrams spent most of 2020 attempting to rally the Black vote and Democrat turnout for the presidential election. Her efforts proved successful as President Trump lost the state to Biden.
Above the campaign video, Abrams writes, “I’m running for Governor because opportunity in our state shouldn’t be determined by zip code, background or access to power.”
Abrams totes that during the pandemic she has helped families lower medical debt, gain access to vaccines and provide food to food banks throughout the state.
The race is poised to be watched all across the country, as Georgia has been in the center of election fraud scandals, and with incumbent Kemp being slammed by both sides of the aisle, the primary could be an uphill climb for him. Recently, President Trump made the statement that he would prefer Stacey Abrams to be governor than Kemp.
There are expected to be little to no challengers against Abrams since she has headlined the Democrat party of Georgia since her first election bid in 2018.
