A scary situation unfolded at the Republican National Committee (RNC) headquarters in Washington D.C. on Wednesday morning after the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) responded to a suspicious package containing vials of blood.

While minimal details were initially available, the package was reportedly addressed to President Trump, according to an update from the Associated Press.

The New York Post reported that one of the vials appeared to have broken open, leaking blood inside the package. Photographs from the scene show police tape blocking off access to the building, which was temporarily placed on lockdown.

The Hazardous Incident Response Division was on site investigating the matter. A little while later, law enforcement officials in gas masks were photographed leaving the building, with one carrying a plastic bag containing unknown material.

USCP announced that the hazmat team had cleared the package, but the investigation was ongoing.

This is a developing story.
