Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the state of Texas is constructing its own border wall as the crisis at the U.S. southern border worsens as the Biden administration remains silent.
“Texas is stepping up and we are building our own border wall,” said Abbott. The calculated move is an effort to curtail the latest caravan of thousands of illegal immigrants from passing through the state’s border. An estimated 2,000-4,000 people are presently traveling through Mexico en route to either to Del Rio, Texas, or Yuma, Ariz.
“While the Biden administration is MIA, the Lone Star State continues to surge resources and personnel to secure our border,” the Texas governor wrote in a recent tweet.
In a race against the clock, the state is wasting no time in completing wall construction. “We are in the process of getting bids on it and I am told to expect part of the Texas wall to be completed before the end of this calendar year,” Abbott revealed in an interview with Tucker Carlson.
In addition to the project, the governor has mobilized thousands of National Guardsman and the Department of Public Safety Troopers to help contain illegal crossings. “They are barricading the border using different strategies,” said Abbott. Expounding on the various means of protection, “They are laying miles upon miles of razor wire,” he continued. Moreover, he stated that large shipping containers will be used to blockade points of entry along the border.
The Texas National Guard and the Department of Public Safety have been authorized to arrest anyone that enters the United States illegally and charge them for trespassing in the state of Texas. The two agencies joined forces in March when Gov. Abbott initiated Operation Lone Star. The operation is tasked with securing the border against the Mexican cartels in high risk areas.
“Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans,” said Abbott.
This, however, isn’t the first caravan to make its way towards the southern border of Texas.
In September, an unsuccessful migrant group of 15,000 Haitians and Central Americans attempted to illegally enter the United States. Many of these caravans are incentivized by the loose border policies of the Biden administration and the expectancy to be granted amnesty in the U.S – a practice that many socialist countries implement to fundamentally change a country.
Without help from the White House, “That leaves it to the states now to step up and do everything we can to hold on to the United States of America until Republicans can regain control of congress and the presidency,” said Abbott.
