The movement to end school mask mandates is winning

The movement to cancel school mask mandates appears to be winning in America as states across the nation begin to end Covid-19 mandates.

The Democrat governors of California, Washington, and Oregon announced the end of school mask mandates in a joint statement on Monday. The governors said, “With declining case rates and hospitalizations across the West, California, Oregon and Washington are moving together to update their masking guidance.”

Starting March 12, school districts will no longer be required to enforce statewide mask mandates for millions of students.

However, the LA Times reported, “Local officials retain the option of keeping mask rules in place if they think doing so is warranted, and more than 1,000 school districts face making their own decisions on when to take that step — contingent on county health orders and labor agreements.”

Nevertheless, the announcement by the three Democrat-run states represents the change occurring throughout the nation as the United States looks beyond the Covid-19 pandemic.

New York announced the end of its own statewide school mask mandate on Sunday. The school mask mandate will expire for New York on March 2.

Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul said in her press conference, “We will lift the statewide requirement based on all the data that I’ve just outlined. However, there are some counties in the state that have a higher rate of transmission. We will allow them the flexibility to determine what’s best for their county. We would encourage them to take a look at this and follow the CDC, but this will no longer be a mandate.”

Political commentator Clay Travis tweeted in response, “New York is ending its school mask mandate on Wednesday, the day after Joe Biden’s state of the union address.” He added, “Masks in schools have been about politics for nearly two years now, never science.”

After nearly two years of mask mandates, states are finally ending the tyrannical decrees that forced children to wear masks and social distance while celebrities and politicians were repeatedly caught without masks.

Republican leaders like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin led the nation in defending the freedoms of America’s children. Unlike liberal governors, they followed scientific data and implemented measures that prevented school districts from forcing children to wear masks. Now the rest of the nation is beginning to follow their lead.

The timing of the recent set of announcements by Democrat governors is called into question as it came shortly before Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. However, millions of Americans across the nation will be relieved to know their children will no longer be required to wear masks at school.
