President Donald Trump’s new U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi, ordered a pause on federal funding to sanctuary cities during her first day on the job.

Bondi, 59, issued the order shortly after being sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the Oval Office on Wednesday.

“[T]he Department of Justice will ensure that, consistent with law, ‘sanctuary jurisdictions’ do not receive access to Federal funds from the Department,” the memo stated.

“Consistent with applicable statutes, regulations, court orders, and terms, the Department of Justice shall pause the distribution of all funds until a review has been completed, terminate any agreements that are in violation of law or are the source of waste, fraud, or abuse, and initiate clawback or recoupment procedures, where appropriate,” it continued.

The memo includes a 60-day pause on funding distribution with a report due to Bondi within 45 days.

RSBN previously reported that Trump posted his reaction to his Truth Social account early Wednesday, offering strong praise for her background and future work in the role.

“Congratulations to our wonderful and very talented United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, who gets sworn in today amid tremendous support, and the respect of ALL!” Trump wrote.

“I know Pam well, it was an honor to appoint her, and my prediction is that she will go down as one of the best and most consequential Attorney Generals in the history of our Country. Congratulations Pam, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he added.

The Trump administration previously sent a warning through the Justice Department warning against officials obstructing immigration enforcement.

“The Justice Department must, and will, work to eradicate these threats,” Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove wrote.

“Indeed, it is the responsibility of the Justice Department to defend the Constitution and, accordingly, to lawfully execute the policies that the American people elected President Trump to implement. The Justice Department’s responsibility, proudly shouldered by each of its employees, includes aggressive enforcement of laws enacted by Congress, as well as vigorous defense of the President’s actions on behalf of the United States against legal challenges. The Department’s personnel must come together in the offices that taxpayers have funded to do this vitally important work,” he added.
