The Trump campaign took aim at former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley this week in a series of eviscerating statements that highlighted the GOP candidate’s tepid record on issues like Communist China and raising American taxes.
In a statement, the campaign linked to a 2017 CBS News clip where Haley spoke about China as “a friend,” again raising questions about where her foreign policy sympathies truly lie.
She said, “I think China’s been a really great friend of ours,” referring to issues with North Korea at the time.
The campaign also highlighted Haley’s previous move to give “197 acres of free land” to a Chinese-based company during her time as South Carolina’s governor. Most Americans are aware of the ever-expanding foothold China has gained with American farmland, so this track record may not go over well with Republican voters in the primary.
According to a Fox News report, Haley reportedly courted Bluestar Silicones, which included an alleged $600,000 to encourage the company to move to South Carolina. Unfortunately for Haley, the company is reportedly linked tightly to China and the Chinese military.
The Trump campaign also pointed out Haley’s flip-flopping position on raising gas and sales tax in South Carolina during her time in the governor’s office, highlighting changes in her position on the issue between 2013 to 2015.
In fact, in 2015, she proposed a massive gas tax of 60 percent, according to a report included in the campaign’s statement from UBJ, severely deviating from her 2013 vow to stand firm against gas taxes in the Palmetto State.
However, Haley’s comments and stances on China and taxes are not the only head-scratching moves she’s made over the past few years.
As reported by RSBN, Haley also promised never to run against Trump in a Republican primary election. She broke that promise in 2023 when she announced her intention to enter the GOP presidential primary race for 2024.
