President Donald Trump recently defended his decision to send $60 million in humanitarian aid to war-torn Gaza.

While speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting with European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen amid his trip to the United Kingdom, the 47th president emphasized the moral necessity of supporting Palestinians in need.

“We gave $60 million two weeks ago — and nobody even acknowledged it. For food … When I do that, a lot of people aren’t happy about that because they say, ‘Well why are we doing it and nobody else?’ But I think we had a humanitarian reason for doing it,” Trump stated, standing by his policy despite limited recognition.

Trump has also pledged to continue supporting Gaza with additional resources. “Will I do more aid, yeah,” he affirmed, signaling ongoing U.S. assistance to the region. However, he expressed a desire for broader international cooperation, noting, “The US is going to do more aid for Gaza, but we would like to have other countries participate.”

While addressing the stalled ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas, he highlighted the complexity of the situation, particularly regarding hostage negotiations. “When you get it down to a certain number, you’re going to be able to make a deal with Hamas because once they give them up, then they feel that that’s going to be the end of them,” he explained.

“They had a routine discussion the other day, and all of a sudden, they hardened up, they don’t wanna give them back, and so Israel is going to have to make a decision.”

Trump refrained from dictating Israel’s next steps. “I know what I’d do, but I don’t think it’s appropriate that I say.”

He also pointed out the dire conditions in Gaza, stating, “If we weren’t there. I think people would have starved, frankly. They would have starved, and it’s not like they’re eating well.”

His administration’s aid efforts align with recent airdrops and the establishment of humanitarian corridors by Israel’s military, aimed at improving aid distribution. Over 250 trucks carrying UN and other aid recently entered Gaza to ensure vital resources reach those in need. Despite criticism from some supporters, Trump remains steadfast in his humanitarian policies.

He reiterated his stance on Monday during a visit with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “I’m looking for getting people fed right now. That’s the number one position because you have a lot of starving people … Other nations are going to have to step up.”

He assured reporters that the United States would prevent Hamas from intercepting the food delivery.
