Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton received support from President Donald Trump this week as he faces an impeachment trial in the Lone Star State.
“Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was easily re-elected last November, but now establishment RINOS are trying to undo that Election with a shameful impeachment of him,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
According to The New York Times, the impeachment trial rests largely on allegations that the attorney general was having an extramarital affair and that he also received money from Mr. Nate Paul to pay for home renovations in return for legal favors.
Trump remarked, “Who would replace Paxton, one of the TOUGHEST & BEST Attorney Generals in the Country? Could it be a Democrat, or even worse, a RINO?”
Paxton has earned a reputation for fighting for election integrity in Texas and has taken steps to secure the southern border by bringing legal action against the Biden administration on multiple occasions.
Last year, Paxton was reelected to serve as the state’s attorney general in a landslide.
As reported by RSBN, Paxton himself has called the impeachment trial “illegal” and has further published a 347-page report that details his defense against the allegations being made against him.
According to the Texas Tribune, AG Paxton has pleaded not guilty to 16 articles of impeachment. On Wednesday, Paxton additionally remarked on X that he would be flying to Maine next week to join former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for a sit-down interview discussing the “last two weeks in Texas politics.”
He added, “It should be interesting!”
In his comments on Truth Social, Trump continued, “The voters have decided who they want! Democrats are feeling very good right now as they watch, as usual, the Republicans fight & eat away at each other. It’s a SAD day in the Great State of Texas!”
