The issue of presidential immunity is slated to be heard in the U.S. Supreme Court next week, bringing forth an issue that could very well ultimately determine the fate of President Trump’s ongoing legal cases.

Trump has long argued that much of the prosecution being brought against him is unlawful, based on his opinion that he had presidential immunity while he was in the White House – an important precedent that was tenuously set by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1982, but one that has been controversial.

The scope of that ruling applied to civil suits, but the ambiguity on the issue of criminal suits will likely be the crux of the arguments that SCOTUS will hear this month.

This week, Trump argued that if presidential immunity was stripped away from him, then Joe Biden would essentially be fair game to prosecute. He cited the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal and the unfettered bloodshed and violence at the southern border as two examples of potential prosecution for Biden, as reported by RSBN.

On Friday, Trump expanded on his thoughts about presidential immunity, warning that there would be dire consequences for all future presidents if that shield of legal protection was removed by the Supreme Court.

He wrote, “Without Presidential Immunity, the Presidency will lose its power and prestige, and under some Leaders, have no power at all. The Presidency will be consumed by the other Branches of Government. THAT IS NOT WHAT OUR FOUNDERS WANTED!”

Trump also argued that without presidential immunity, a president could easily be extorted or blackmailed. “…the Opposing Party, during his/her term in Office, can extort and blackmail the President by saying that, ‘if you don’t give us everything we want, we will Indict you for things you did while in Office,’ even if everything done was totally Legal and Appropriate,” he said.

The president warned that it would be the “end of the Presidency, and our Country, as we know it” and pointed out that Biden, along with former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama “would all be in BIG TROUBLE.”

He concluded, “If a President doesn’t have IMMUNITY, he/she will be nothing more than a ‘Ceremonial’ President, rarely having the courage to do what has to be done for our Country. This is not what the Founders had in mind!”
