President Trump shined a spotlight on the Columbia Journalism Review’s (CJR) 18-month investigation into the “Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax” that was launched against the 45th president by the American press, noting that their findings were “STAGGERING.”
He explained in a statement, “It is a STAGGERING detailed account of the lies, disinformation, and complete lack of journalistic integrity exhibited by the purveyors of Fake News at the Washington Compost (sometimes known as the Washington Post), the Failing New York Times, and many others.”
The investigative report from CJR has been broken into four major sections, focusing largely on what CJR editor Kyle Pope posited as journalism’s “tortured dance with Donald Trump, the man who would be the country’s forty-fifth president – first dismissing him, then embracing him as a source of ratings and clicks, then going all in on efforts to catalogue Trump as a threat to the country (also a great source of ratings and clicks).”
CJR’s report, written by investigative journalist Jeff Gerth, looked into how the press shaped the debunked and false narratives purporting collusion between President Trump and Russia, noting the serious damage done to the credibility of once-trusted news organizations like the New York Times and Washington Post.
Gerth wrote, “…the damage to the credibility of the Times and its peers persists, three years on, and is likely to take on new energy as the nation faces yet another election season animated by antagonism toward the press. At its root was an undeclared war between an entrenched media, and a new kind of disruptive presidency, with its own hyperbolic version of the truth.”
President Trump also remarked on the CJR report, “This Fake News, with all of its disinformation, had a huge impact on the 2020 Presidential Election, just one of the many ways that the Election was Rigged and Stolen. This proves, once again, that the Corrupt, Woke, Radical Democrats stole the 2020 Election, making it impossible for that fact to be called ‘the Big Lie,’ as the Marxists and Communists in our Country attempt to portray it.”
