President Donald Trump humorously celebrated the departure of “Fake News CNN” reporter Jim Acosta on Tuesday morning after news broke that the journalist would be leaving to pursue other ventures.

Acosta’s slot on CNN was replaced last week by other anchors. The New York Post reported that the left-wing journo was offered a “graveyard shift” at midnight, suggesting his program hasn’t been terribly popular with viewers.

President Trump responded to this news on Truth Social with a hefty dose of humor. “Wow, really good news! Jim Acosta, one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history, a major sleazebag, has been relegated by CNN Fake News to the Midnight hour, ‘Death Valley,’ because of extraordinarily BAD RATINGS (and no talent!),” he wrote.

Acosta tangled with President Trump during the president’s first term, but he is especially infamous for causing an unprofessional scene in 2018 while covering a White House press conference.

“When you report Fake News, which CNN does a lot, you are the enemy of the people,” President Trump told Acosta at the time.

This week, Acosta dramatically announced his departure from the mainstream network while broadcasting on live television, noting, “People often ask me if the highlight of my career at CNN was at the White House covering Donald Trump? Actually, no.”

Acosta said his favorite moment in his career was when he covered former President Barack Obama’s 2016 trip to Cuba. “I took home this lesson: it is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant,” Acosta said, in an apparent dig toward President Trump. “I’ve always believed it’s the job of the press to hold power to account.”

It’s unclear where Acosta will go next, but there is clearly no love lost between him and the 47th president.

“Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim,” Trump concluded on Truth Social.
