President Trump will be appearing on CNN for the first time in nearly eight years. The network announced his involvement in their upcoming town hall event, Monday.
Scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, this appearance is highly controversial, and President Trump posted to Truth Social about his involvement. He stated, “Going into the heart of Enemy territory, but maybe the Enemy is changing?”
President Trump’s ongoing feud with CNN has been highly documented throughout his presidency and recent years. In 2018, The Hill reported that he deemed CNN “Fake News” at a rally in Pennsylvania.
By 2021, CNN lost 68 percent of its ratings, according to Forbes. This came after the network was publicly mocked for its 2020 coverage of the Kenosha riots, titling them “fiery but mostly peaceful,” per the New York Post.
Just last year, RSBN reported that President Trump sued CNN for $475 million in defamation damages, and earlier this year in February, he mocked the network for having to close its Atlanta headquarters.
But now, President Trump is willing to appear on CNN once more in an effort to determine whether or not they are “changing.”
Slate published an article questioning the removal of Trump critics within the company last year, and CNN’s recent firing of Don Lemon was covered by RSBN last month.
While CNN has been one of President Trump’s main opponents, his popularity has remained unchanged, and as the 2024 election draws closer, the mainstream news source may be seeking to draw audiences back to their reporting. Whether this will rebuild a recurring audience or not is uncertain.
