President Donald Trump delivered remarks on Saturday at a crowded Team Trump Iowa Commit to Caucus event in Ankeny, greeted by cheers of “WE WANT TRUMP,” “USA,” and “Commander-in-Chief!”
The president took his time entering the room, where he stopped to sign multiple autographs, shake hands, and chat with the crowd of prospective Iowa caucus-goers before taking the stage.
“I don’t have any notes, I don’t have anything – I’m up here all by myself with all the fake news back there,” he joked.
He noted the 45-day countdown to the Iowa caucuses, calling it “the most important election in the history of our country,” because “our country is going to hell – it’s going to hell rapidly.”
The president poked a stick at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), whom he described as “dropping like a very, very sick bird, slowly into the ground” in the GOP primary polls.
He attacked Joe Biden’s administration and the “group of people that have done great damage to our country,” highlighting the importance of saving America at the ballot box in 2024. “We HAVE to win,” he said.
The president also called the on Republicans to unite around a single candidate headed into the 2024 primary, stating, “We have to come together as a party.”
Trump added that Iowa had been a “great place for us” and that he “loved the people” of the state.
