President Donald Trump made a surprise visit to a young supporter with a rare brain disorder on Monday to celebrate his birthday.
Liam received a happy birthday letter from Trump just before turning eight years old, leading to a viral video over the young boy’s response.
“I’m supposed to be on that stage, but that doesn’t matter because I got you the best present,” Trump told Liam backstage at his rally at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. “This is the best present you’ll ever have.”
Liam’s mother read the letter to her son who was overcome by emotion over Trump’s visit and gift.
“Dear Liam, happy eighth birthday! Mrs. Trump and I hope you enjoy this special occasion surrounded by the love of your family and friends,” Trump’s letter said in part.
“We are so encouraged by the strength and determination you have shown throughout your young life and send our love and best wishes to you as you continue to fight. Remember you are never alone and we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers for continued prayer and good health. May God bless you and your family. Stay strong,” the letter continued.
As Liam’s mother read the letter, Liam cried, saying, “Thank you,” and, “I love you.”
Liam’s parents also spoke about the experience in an interview.
“It’s a pipe dream, I can never imagine, to thank the world for helping my son come this far and showing support and making his dream come true, because, believe it or not, this is definitely probably one of his big dreams, to meet Donald Trump, his hero since he was probably born. If not, very close,” Liam’s dad said, according to Fox News Digital.
“My buddy here plays ice hockey, he does roller hockey, he does very good in school, plays sports…we’re so proud of him,” his mom also told the outlet.
The touching scene was part of an eventful night for Trump and his supporters during the massive New York rally.
Trump also announced during the event that if elected in November he will turn Ground Zero at the World Trade Center into a national monument to commemorate the innocent lives lost during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
