President Donald Trump was named Time’s “Person of the Year” on Wednesday following rumors that he would receive the award on the same day that he rang the bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

Time revealed its announcement and cover featuring Trump late Tuesday on its website.

“Since he began running for President in 2015, perhaps no single individual has played a larger role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump,” Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs wrote.

“He shocked many by winning the White House in 2016, then led the U.S. through a chaotic term that included the first year of a pandemic as well as a period of nationwide protest, and that ended with his losing the election by 7 million votes and provoking the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The smart money wagered that we had witnessed the end of Trump,” he continued.

The article featuring Trump’s win added more details regarding Trump’s “unparalleled” comeback.

“An assassin’s bullet missed his skull by less than an inch at a rally in Butler, Pa., in July. Over the next four months, he beat not one but two Democratic opponents, swept all seven swing states, and became the first Republican to win the popular vote in 20 years. He has realigned American politics, remaking the GOP and leaving Democrats reckoning with what went awry,” Time noted.

Jacobs announced the win on the “Today” show. He stated Trump was someone who “for better or for worse, had the most influence on the news in 2024.”

According to Reuters, “Time bestowed the ‘Person of the Year’ title to Trump once before, in 2016. It named Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris ‘Person of the Year’ in 2020, after they defeated Trump. Pop star Taylor Swift received the title last year.”
