Trump: Republican Party is ‘setting records’ for Hispanic support

Hispanic voters are flocking to the Republican Party, according to President Donald J. Trump, because they understand the dangers posed by an open border.

Addressing a crowd of Miami rallygoers Sunday, Trump said: “When I talked about the border, you know who the biggest fans of that were? The Hispanics – Latinos. They knew more about the border than anybody.”

Noting that seasoned politicos had predicted he would lose support from Hispanic voters over his immigration stance, he added: “Actually, it turned out to be the exact opposite. We are setting records… They understood crime much better than the fools that we have in D.C.”

Indeed, the crowd of attendees – throughout which many “Latinos For Trump!” signs were scattered – seemed to align fully with Trump’s message on immigration, resurrecting a popular chant from his first presidential run: “Build that wall! Build that wall!”

Additionally, recent polling has suggested that the Republican Party is, in fact, making historic gains with Latino voters, who prefer Republican policies on issues like the economy, border security, and crime. Shockingly, Republicans have gained more than 20 points with Latino voters over the last decade.

South Florida is known for having a robust Latino community that includes many Cuban and Venezuelan immigrants.

In his Sunday remarks, Trump assured the crowd that while the Democrats hope to turn America into “communist Cuba or socialist Venezuela,” Republicans had no desire to do so.

“In the Republican Party, we are determined that America will never be a socialist country,” he noted. “And America will sure as hell – we can’t let this happen – [never] be a communist country.”
