President Trump again attacked CNN this week, reminding Americans that the network was suffering “deplorable” ratings on the heels of primetime host Don Lemon’s reported demotion to morning television.
“I just turned to CNN to see if Don Lemon, the dumbest man on television, was still on,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Surprisingly, despite ‘deplorable’ ratings, they have not yet yanked him from his chair.”
Earlier this month, Trump celebrated Lemon’s alleged “firing” at CNN after the TV host announced that he would be leaving primetime television for a spot on a morning show. “A small step for television, a giant step for mankind,” Trump joked after the news broke.
Lemon has historically been an outspoken critic of President Trump and the MAGA movement, drawing the ire of the 45th president and millions of his supporters.
“He had on with him another lonely and pathetic figure, con man Michael D’Antonio, who has been with CNN for years pretending he knows me, which he does not,” Trump continued. “I was probably the only one watching, but it was a sad sight seeing two losers, Trump haters both, lamenting that I have come so far – Like President of the U.S.!”
Lemon has insisted that his departure from primetime television was not a demotion. Still, President Trump has relentlessly slammed the left-wing host, quipping that Lemon would likely take a “BIG salary cut prior to his Complete & Total future firing from Ratings Challenged (to put it mildly!) CNN.”
Lemon’s alleged demotion comes on the heels of swirling reports that CNN may reportedly be positioning itself to restructure the network’s tone to appeal to a broader base. Per The Guardian, CNN’s CEO, Chris Licht, has stated that he wants to move away from “alarmist” programming and focus on objective reporting.
Whether CNN will adjust its narrative remains to be seen.
