It’s been over 85 days since President Trump entered the White House and has made some huge policy changes. A new poll has revealed that his approval ratings have increased even further following these changes.
Breitbart reported on a poll hosted by CNBC that showed that a majority of voters approve of President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and increased border security. The All-America Economic Survey found that the public is strongly aligned with his handling of immigration. According to Breitbart, President Trump saw a +12 point approval on handling the southern border and an additional +7 points on deporting illegal immigrants.
Breitbart reported that another CNN poll also showed similar results, with 56 percent of participants supporting his illegal immigration crackdown. The same poll, conducted in 2016, showed an approval rating of 39 percent, indicating that his ratings have increased dramatically this year.
Border security has been a top concern for voters, and President Trump and his administration are working diligently to address this issue, having already implemented significant changes. According to Reuters, in February, U.S. Border Patrol arrested 8,300 migrants at the southern border. NBC News reported that United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 11,000 migrants in February and in the first four weeks of March, deported 12,300 people.
Deportations are lower than what President Trump’s administration has wanted this month, but that lag is a result of a drastic drop in border crossings because President Trump has stopped the pathways for people to cross the border and seek asylum. Department of Homeland Security official Tricia McLaughlin explained that the lag in deportations can be linked back to the Biden administration and former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
In a statement to NBC News, McLaughlin explained, “Deportations have already exceeded 117,000 in just the first 70 days. This is just the beginning. We are unleashing DHS law enforcement that has had its hands tied behind its back for four years under [former President Joe] Biden and [former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas.”
To tackle this problem, President Trump’s administration will issue a fine of over $998 per day for every day that the illegal alien overstays their final deportation order.
