President Donald Trump will likely issue a response to the upcoming Jan. 6 Select Committee’s public hearings that will be held in the House, according to a report from Breitbart.
An aide to the 45th president reportedly told CBS News that Trump would probably respond to the hearing by making statements, Breitbart further reported.
The Jan. 6 Select Committee has dedicated itself to “investigating” the medial-labeled “insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol in 2021 when protesters entered the Capitol building.
The Select Committee issued a statement ahead of the hearings: “The committee will present previously unseen material documenting January 6th, receive witness testimony, preview additional hearings, and provide the American people a summary of its findings of the coordinated, multi-step effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and prevent the transfer of power.”
The news that Trump may be reacting to the public hearings comes on the heels of news that State Sen. Doug Mastriano, R-Pa., will testify in front of the Jan. 6 Committee for a voluntary interview. Mastriano recently won the GOP gubernatorial primary race in Pennsylvania and is endorsed by President Trump.
The hearings will unfold after the U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) declined to charge former Trump officials Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino for being uncooperative with the Select Committee’s investigation of the “insurrection,” according to Reuters.
However, the House committee has subpoenaed several other Trump allies this year. In May, the committee announced that they were subpoenaing five members of Congress: Republican Reps. Kevin McCarthy, Scott Perry, Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs, and Mo Brooks.
The information that will be presented during the hearings has been the source of much speculation among both critics and supporters of President Trump.
Hugo Lowell, a congressional reporter for The Guardian, wrote on Twitter: “Source familiar tells me the Jan. 6 committee’s first hearing on June 9th will involve House investigators providing a roadmap for the other hearings — the broad ground they expect to cover — and then dive into new material.”
President Trump will likely react to the hearings through his Save America PAC or Truth Social.
