President Donald Trump promised on Monday to restore access to faith leaders and reopen the White House “faith office” if he is elected president.

Trump shared the comments during an interview with the National Faith Advisory Board in Powder Springs, Georgia, moderated by Paula White-Cain, who held the role previously.

“We’re going to set that up,” Trump said. “It’s important, and it’ll be directly into the Oval Office.”

He added, “We have to save religion in this country. I mean, honestly, religion is under threat in this country, serious threat, and we can’t let that happen. It’s sort of the fabric of our country. It’s the thing that holds our country together. We can’t, we can’t lose it. We’re not going to lose it.”

A group of influential Christian leaders prayed with Trump to conclude the event that included approximately 1,000 evangelicals.

Trump campaign Deputy Director of Communications Margo Martin shared a brief video of the prayer on X.

The role of religion in the White House has changed several times under recent administrations. Trump restored the Faith Office role during his final year in office, while former President Barack Obama renamed the group the Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Biden left the office open until 2021, reopening the role under the name Obama used. Melissa Rogers took the role as executive director.

Trump has long held strong influence among American evangelical leaders. His support among the group hit a high point recently after Vice President Kamala Harris responded to two college students proclaiming, “Christ is king,” were attending “the wrong rally.”

As RSBN previously reported, Trump soon addressed the issue during a Concord, North Carolina, faith event where he proclaimed, “In our movement, we love Christians, we welcome believers, and we embrace followers of Jesus.”

“At Trump rallies, we don’t tell Christians to get lost. We tell Christians to GET OUT and VOTE!” he added.

In a strong response against social concerns of importance to evangelicals, Trump pledged to stop schools from promoting CRT (critical race theory), transgender athletes in girls’ sports and radical gender ideology.

“On day one I will sign an executive order banning schools from promoting critical race theory or transgender insanity. I will take historic action to defeat the toxic poison of gender ideology and reaffirm that God created two genders, male and female,” Trump said to roaring applause.
