Trump vows to restore honesty, integrity to U.S. elections

President Donald J. Trump outlined his “National Greatness Agenda” for supporters at Mar-a-Lago Tuesday night as he announced the official launch of his 2024 presidential campaign. Notably, one of the key issues he highlighted was election integrity.

“We will do whatever it takes to bring back honesty, confidence, and trust in our elections,” Trump declared. “To eliminate cheating, I will immediately demand voter ID, same-day voting, and only paper ballots. … And we want all votes counted by election night.”

In the wake of last week’s midterm elections, concerns about election integrity are at an all-time high, as many Republicans fear that cheating may have affected the results.

Trump has been vocal about his belief that the election was “rigged,” calling for a new election in Arizona following several problems with the elections there.

In his Tuesday remarks, Trump said such failures are just one symptom of a nation in decline.

“Our country was great,” he said. “Our country’s not great anymore. Our country’s a laughingstock right now, but our country can be greater than it ever was before — by a lot.”

While noting that the road to recovery would not be easy, he held that the American people would prevail together.

“We will be attacked, we will be slandered, we will be persecuted … but we will not be intimidated,” he said. “We will persevere, we will stand tall in the storm, we will march forward into the torrent, and we, in the end, will win.”
