According to a new poll, President Donald Trump’s approval rating has passed 50 percent as he widens his polling lead against President Donald Trump.

The USA TODAY/Suffolk University study showed that 51 percent of respondents approve of Trump’s performance in office as president, compared to 41 percent who approve of Biden’s performance.

Trump also ranked higher than Biden on the two top issues in the 2024 presidential campaign: the economy and inflation.

The poll revealed that 53 percent of respondents trust Trump on immigration. Only 40 percent agreed that Biden could be trusted on the issue.

The poll showed that inflation was the No. 1 issue for 35 percent of voters, the highest of the categories addressed. Threats to democracy ranked second at 21 percent, immigration at 19 percent and abortion at 9 percent.

In addition to the rankings of Biden and Trump, Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., received 8 percent support of likely voters in the poll. Kennedy continued to pursue making the ballot in all 50 states, an effort that could make a significant difference in the election outcome.

The poll, conducted among a sample of 1,000 registered voters between June 28-30, found Trump gained a three-point advantage since its last poll in May. The poll noted that the difference falls within the study’s 3.1 percent margin of error.

The study reveals a post-debate surge by Trump following a strong showing during his faceoff with Biden on CNN. Some Democrats have called for Biden to drop from the race, though his campaign has vowed that he will continue to move ahead toward the November election.

The poll also echoes other studies taken since the recent presidential debate. A CNN poll between Trump and Biden showed Trump pulling away with a six-point lead.

The poll also noted Trump leading over leading potential Biden replacements, “including California Gov. Gavin Newsom (48% Trump to 43% Newsom), Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (47% Trump to 43% Buttigieg), and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (47% Trump to 42% Whitmer).”

Trump has also increased his polling numbers across unexpected states in recent weeks. In New Hampshire, a recent poll showed Trump ahead of Biden. Other states, including Michigan, have also shown Trump gaining in polls in his comeback bid as president.
