The audit which began in late April, focused the 2020 presidential election, and was meant to examine the legitimacy of the results after President Donald Trump lost the Grand Canyon State by about 10,400 votes, an extremely slim margin. This prompted Arizona Republicans to demand an audit to verify each ballot’s authenticity.
Arizona state Senate President Karen Fann, R-Prescott, said that the audit would cover three aspects of the county’s election results. According to Fann, the areas of focus were; to review mail-in ballot envelopes for missing or illegible signatures, a hand count of the 2020 election results by the Senate’s contractor Cyber Ninjas, and a machine count of the ballots, which did not match the numbers gathered by Cyber Ninjas.
During a video posted on Tuesday, Chair of the Arizona Republican Party Dr. Kelli Ward said, “I am anxiously looking forward to this Friday, Sept. 24, when the audit team will be presenting their report to the State Senate at 1 p.m. Arizona time. I know many of you are looking forward to that, as well.”
This highly contested audit appears to be nearing the end. Questions have been raised by many in the GOP as to whether the results would be enough reason to decertify the state’s 2020 election results, if extensive fraud was discovered. That has yet to be determined.
