Following Thursday morning’s Russian invasion, Ukrainians are hunkering down for a fight, and they are willing to enlist nearly anyone who would like to defend their country.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that his government would provide weapons to anyone willing to defend their country from the Russian invasion.

Zelensky said, “We will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country. Be ready to support Ukraine in the squares of our cities,” Adding, “We will lift sanctions on all citizens of Ukraine who are ready to defend our country as part of territorial defense with weapons in hands.”

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry echoed Zelensky’s call to arms when they posted the following plea on Facebook:

Dear Defenders and Defenders !!

In the last hours we have received a lot of requests on how to enter the ranks of the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Anyone who is ready to hold weapons, join the forces of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We have simplified all the procedures. Just take a passport. Passport only. We give weapons to all patriots who are ready to use it against the enemy without hesitation! Keeping the calm.”

The first day of fighting involved a Russian assault on land, sea, and air and came from the country’s north, east, and south.

These assaults included an attack on the famed decommissioned nuclear plant Chernobyl. Chernobyl, located 80 miles north of the capital city of Kyiv, had a nuclear meltdown in 1986 when the now-defunct Soviet Union controlled the region.

Russian forces have reportedly taken the nuclear plant and are holding hostages as of this writing.

This is a developing story.
