Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance hammered home President Donald Trump’s economic record during his debate with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday night.

He noted that Walz has a “tough job,” on debating the economy. “You’ve gotta play Whack-A-Mole, you’ve gotta pretend that Donald Trump didn’t deliver rising takehome pay, which of course he did.

“You’ve gotta pretend that Donald Trump didn’t deliver lower inflation, which of course he did,” he went on.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau minority poverty rates dipped down to an over 50-year low in 2019 under Trump’s leadership. The poverty rate dropped for all races as median household income continued to climb as well, per the U.S. Census Bureau.

In addition, the 2020 inflation rate was 1.4 percent, while inflation skyrocketed throughout the Biden/Harris administration reaching a high of seven percent in 2021 and remaining at an average of 2.5 percent for 2024, via the U.S. Inflation Calculator.

Vance also criticized Walz’s running mate during the debate due to her record. He stated that Walz needed to “defend Kamala Harris’ atrocious economic record, which has made gas, groceries, and housing unaffordable for American citizens.”

Earlier this year, Forbes reported that gas hit another four-month high after climbing to an “all time high in June 2022.”

The U.S. Government Accountability Office found that under Biden/Harris the cost of groceries rose to “the largest annual increase in over 40 years.”

CNN reported that Bank of America economists warned that the housing market isn’t likely to improve until 2026 or later due to high interest rates which have resulted in a “housing shortage.”

Vance took a strong stance on these issues during the debate, recalling his previous struggles with poverty during childhood. He stated, “I was raised by a woman who would sometimes go into medical debt so that she could put food on the table in our household. I know what it’s like to not be able to afford the things that you need to afford.”

“We can do so much better,” Vance concluded. “To all of you watching, we can get back to an America that’s affordable again. We just gotta get back to common sense economic principles.”
