As midterm elections inch closer, Democrats are growing worrisome that their reign over both chambers of Congress may soon come to an end. With nationwide Republican candidates soaring through polls and the nation facing a crippling economy at the hands of a Democrat-controlled government, Democrats have every reason to panic this election season.
In a conversation with Joe Biden caught on a hot mic on Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., expressed concern over their efforts to maintain control of Congress, the Washington Examiner reported.
“We’re in danger in that seat,” Schumer told Biden during a private exchange in Syracuse, New York. While it remains unclear what specific “seat” Schumer was referring to, it is safe to say that Democrats are losing steam in countless races across the country.
The latest projections have been unfavorable for Democrats, with many predicting a red wave.
Election forecaster FiveThirtyEight has given Republicans a stunning 80 percent chance of taking back the House, projecting they will have anywhere between 213 to 247 House seats. While Democrats were initially poised to remain in control of the House following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Republican candidates have grown an undeniable lead, enough to have a 4-in-5 chance of taking it back.
Which party will win the majority in the Senate is more difficult to pin as the races have been blisteringly competitive.
Nonetheless, a RealClearPolitics projection predicts a Republican takeover of the Senate, with a 53-47 majority after picking up seats in Nevada, Georgia, and Arizona.
Schumer and Democrats are well aware that Georgia is slipping through their fingertips, as Trump-endorsed Republican candidate Herschel Walker gains steam in the polls.
“The state where we’re going downhill is Georgia,” Schumer was heard telling Biden in the video. “It’s hard to believe that they will go for Herschel Walker.”
Pennsylvania is another state to keep a close eye on with Trump-backed candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz and Democrat challenger John Fetterman fighting for the Senate seat.
Although Schumer told Biden that he didn’t think the debate between Fetterman and Oz Tuesday night “hurt” them “too much,” Oz is taking a commanding lead in the polls, RSBN reported.
