The Biden-Harris administration is under fire after it was caught altering the transcript of President Joe Biden’s remarks when he called President Donald Trump’s supporters “garbage.”
The move was so egregious, given that Biden said it on video, that even the mainstream media could not run cover for the administration’s attempts to rewrite history.
The White House press office transcript added an apostrophe to the word “supporter’s” to make it seem like Biden was directly criticizing comedian Tony Hinchcliffe rather than the millions of Americans who support Trump.
The Associated Press reported that it had obtained an internal email from the head of the stenographer’s office, which said the alteration was “a breach of protocol and spoilation of transcript integrity between the Stenography and Press Offices.”
“If there is a difference in interpretation, the Press Office may choose to withhold the transcript but cannot edit it independently,” the supervisor wrote, adding, “Our Stenography Office transcript — released to our distro, which includes the National Archives — is now different than the version edited and released to the public by Press Office staff.”
Fox News’ Peter Doocy reported on Friday morning that the White House stenographers “are now as mad as you will ever hear a stenographer on the record that White House officials tried to change the meaning of their transcripts.”
Doocy provided additional information from the supervisor’s email: “Please avoid sharing rush drafts/excerpts, which are subject to review and might create confusion among staff, media, and the public while our Stenography Office completes a thorough review process,” the supervisor wrote.
Doocy told viewers, “The Harris campaign keeps losing control of news cycles because of this garbage comment, and the clean-up, and White House staff apparently trying to change the meaning of something that everybody who’s watched the clip could hear with their own ears. It is looking like this is becoming a classic D.C. case of the cover-up being worse than the crime. And the crime was pretty politically bad.”
Biden himself tried to save face in a post on X, but the responses, which often include videos and memes of garbage cans, have dominated the platform.
