Sunday Devotional: He has risen

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, along with His birth, are the very foundations of the Christian faith (1 Corinthians 15:3–4).

Amid the many world religions, Jesus’ teachings stand apart. He was born of the Virgin Mary (Matthew 1:23), lived among His creation and ministered to them directly. His ministry, lasting around three years, centered on repentance, for the kingdom of heaven was at hand (Matthew 4:17).

Jesus frequently reminded His listeners that He came for sinners, those in need of hope and salvation (Luke 5:31–32).

While many Jews expected the Messiah to deliver them from Roman rule, Jesus accomplished far more. He came to deliver mankind from sin and judgment, offering eternal life to those who believe in Him (John 3:16; John 8:24).

Jesus often asked searching questions of His followers, pressing them to consider the cost of discipleship: “What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?” (Matthew 16:26).

His death surely shocked even His disciples. Though He had foretold His resurrection, they struggled to understand—seen clearly in Thomas’ doubt until he saw the risen Christ (John 20:24–29).

Jesus’ story did not end at the cross.

Yet Jesus’ resurrection conquered death itself (1 Corinthians 15:54–57). It stands as the central truth of the gospel and a reminder that this life is temporary (James 4:14). The Kingdom of Heaven is the true and lasting city, prepared for those who belong to Him (Hebrews 11:10; Hebrews 13:14).

No other figure in history has proclaimed such authority over life and death. Jesus did not merely teach truth—He demonstrated it, rising from the grave and confirming that He is the promised Messiah (Romans 1:4).

Jews acknowledge His historical existence, and Islam honors Him as a prophet, but Christians confess Him as Lord and God (John 20:28).

Jesus was not simply a righteous teacher or prophet. He is the living God who laid down His life for His people, that they might have eternal life with Him (John 10:11; John 14:6).

Easter is not about eggs or secular tradition—it is the most important truth of the Christian faith. Death is conquered only through Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 1:10).

Whatever burdens you carry have been laid upon Christ at the cross (1 Peter 2:24). The call is clear: believe in Him, repent, and follow Him (Acts 2:38), just as the apostles and saints have done.

Jesus lives. And it is only through Him that we, too, may live—now and forever (John 11:25–26).
