Biden’s Build Back Better bill is ‘dead,’ according to Sen. Joe Manchin

Biden’s chances of passing his $2 trillion social spending bill are slim to none as Sen. Joe Machin, D-W.Va., affirms the Build Back Better bill is “dead.”

“What Build Back Better bill?” the Democratic senator responded to reporters Tuesday after being asked about the measure. “It’s dead.”

Manchin received significant blowback from his Democrat colleges after announcing he was voting against the nearly $2 trillion Build Back Better climate change and social spending bill.

“I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can’t,” Manchin told Fox News’ Bret Baier in December.

“I tried everything humanly possible. I can’t get there. This is a ‘no’ on this legislation,” he added.

The senator claimed the bill would “dramatically reshape our society in a way that leaves our country even more vulnerable to the threats we face.”

Manchin added that he cannot take that “risk with a staggering debt of more than $29 trillion and inflation taxes that are real and harmful to every hard-working American at the gasoline pumps, grocery stores and utility bills with no end in sight.”

The bill is part of Biden’s multi-trillion-dollar spending package that was split into two measures: infrastructure and social spending.

The $1.2 trillion infrastructure measure initially passed in both the House and Senate last year. However, the social spending bill was shut down after Democrats failed to get Manchin’s vote.

Earlier this month, Manchin pulled his $1.8 trillion compromise off the table and stated he was no longer discussing the subject with the White House.

However, Manchin stated he is open to discussion on constructing another bill that would reduce carbon emissions, create free pre-k programs, and expand federal health care subsidies. Still, those discussions have yet to take place.
