President Trump is urging voters to support Republican Steve Hilton in the California governor’s race. On Wednesday, Trump shared his support in a Truth Social post where he also criticized Fox News for featuring one of Hilton’s Democrat rivals, Tom Steyer.

“Why is Fox News showing SLEAZEBAG Tom Steyer, doing a big piece on him right now, and probably putting him “into play,” instead of talking about Republican Candidates, and really good ones like Steve Hilton, and Republicans?” President Trump said.

The California gubernatorial race features a jungle primary in which all candidates compete for the top two spots regardless of party affiliation. The race has entered new territory after Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif, dropped out following sexual misconduct allegations.

President Trump offered a strong endorsement of Hilton earlier this month, calling him a “fine man” with the potential to turn California around. Trump has been vocally critical of the current Democratic leader of the state, Governor Gavin Newsom, blaming him for policy failures, including crime and high tax rates.

Hilton thanked President Trump at the time of his endorsement and shared his vision for addressing some of the problems plaguing the state. “California should be the best place in the world to follow your dreams, raise a family, start and grow a business. We have everything we need to lead our country again,” Hilton said. “But after 16 years of one-party rule, we have the highest poverty rate, highest unemployment rate, and highest cost of living in America.”

The primary will take place on June 2, 2026, with the top two candidates going on to face one another in a general election. Trump continued his statement by pointing out that Republicans in the state of California are fighting an uphill electoral battle due to the state’s voting mechanisms.

“How can a Republican expect to win that State, with their Mail In Voting and Rigged Elections, when you have FoxNews promoting the Democrats?” Trump said. Nobody cares about Tom Steyer, he is a LOSER, but Fox is making it possible for a guy like this to win. VOTE FOR STEVE HILTON, AND TURN CALIFORNIA AROUND!”
