Breitbart reported that last week, a self-described conservative group pushed to have the No UPCODE Act included in the deal that reopened the government. President Trump stands firm against this pressure and keeps his promises to the elderly.
The No UPCODE Act (No Unreasonable Payments, Coding, or Diagnoses for the Elderly Act) was introduced in 2025, backed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the House and Jeff Merkley and Bill Cassidy in the Senate. The bipartisan legislation claims to address a major problem in Medicare payment policy by improving payment accuracy, but in fact, it reduces access to preventive services and increases costs for beneficiaries.
If this bipartisan compromise had been included, over 34 million Americans who rely on Medicare Advantage would be at risk. According to Breitbart, this act would slash benefits by a whopping $124 billion, leading to the elimination of supplemental benefits such as vision and hearing coverage. The act also seeks to support chronic care programs that help seniors manage diabetes, heart disease, and other serious conditions. According to Better Medicare Alliance, these cuts would weaken chronic disease management by limiting in-home health assessments and chart reviews that are used for early detection and treatment.
The effects of this bill would be devastating, considering that it was designed for low-income seniors, rural seniors, and those living with complex chronic conditions. By removing these benefits, America’s most vulnerable lose access to what helps keep them healthy.
Throughout the years, President Trump has reiterated and kept his promise to protect the best interests of the elderly. A press statement from the White House earlier in March re-emphasized that promise, saying, “The Trump Administration will not cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits. President Trump himself has said it (over and over and over again).”
The elderly also play an important role in elections. They are a significant voting bloc. Breitbart reported that around 40 million Americans aged 65 and up voted in the 2024 elections. This meant that the senior age group had a 75 percent participation. It’s highly unlikely that any elderly citizens would vote for anyone who supports cuts to Medicare Advantage.
