A well-known Republican Congressman is now seeking peace with President Trump. After heated exchanges on social media, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky, has said he would like to declare a ceasefire with the president.
Massie, who has been notoriously critical of President Trump, has received intense focus in recent weeks for his vocal opposition both to Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill” and to the strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Massie shared his response to Trump’s actions in the Israel-Iran conflict in a post on X, including his introduction of a bipartisan War Powers Resolution to block U.S. involvement.
“This is not our war. But if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution,” Massie said. “I’m introducing a bipartisan War Powers Resolution tomorrow to prohibit our involvement. I invite all members of Congress to cosponsor this resolution.”
In response to the criticism, Trump has spoken out against Massie on Truth Social, calling him “a negative force who almost always Votes “NO,” no matter how good something may be,” and saying that Massie is “not MAGA even though he likes to say he is.”
Trump’s response has included a vow to challenge Massie in the Kentucky GOP primary.
Massie joked that he has “survived the bunker busters” in the wake of Trump’s attack on him and now wants to “call it even.”
However, Massie indicated he was up for a fight if Trump follows through on the promise to support a primary challenger. “I have the Trump antibodies,” Massie said in an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.
Massie appeared to make another move towards peace with the President on Tuesday when he shared Trump’s official endorsement of his 2022 candidacy, in which Trump called Massie a “Conservative Warrior for Kentucky’s 4th District!”
“For those who want to know what @RealDonaldTrump really thinks of me, this should clear things up,” Massie said.
