The continued strength of President Trump’s endorsements was on display during special elections held in Florida on Tuesday. Trump-backed Republican Randy Fine won his seat as the new representative for Florida’s 6th Congressional District. The seat was vacated by Mike Waltz, who went on to join the Trump administration as national security advisor.
Fine defeated Democrat Joshua Weil, expanding the GOP’s majority in the House of Representatives. The seat vacated by Matt Gaetz in Florida’s 1st Congressional District was also filled during the special election by a candidate endorsed by President Trump. Republican state chief financial officer Jimmy Patronis defeated Democrat candidate Gay Valimont. The two congressional victories bring the GOP’s majority in the House of Representatives to 220–213.
President Trump congratulated Fine for his win with a post on Truth Social. “RANDY FINE WINS!!!” Trump said.
Fine responded with his own post on X, thanking Trump for his endorsement. “Because of you, Mr. President. I won’t let you down,” Fine said.
Trump went on to point out that Fine was up against a major cash influx from the Democratic campaign.
“Congratulations Randy, a great WIN against a massive CASH AVALANCHE,” Trump said.
Republicans were able to hold both congressional seats, despite a shift towards Democrats and a massive gap in fundraising. According to the Federal Election Commission, Democrats heavily exceeded Republicans in fundraising for both races.
Trump pointed out his successful endorsement in both Florida congressional districts.
“BOTH FLORIDA HOUSE SEATS HAVE BEEN WON, BIG, BY THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE,” Trump said. “THE TRUMP ENDORSEMENT, AS ALWAYS, PROVED FAR GREATER THAN THE DEMOCRATS FORCES OF EVIL. CONGRATULATIONS TO AMERICA!!!”
