President Donald Trump told attendees during a rally on Thursday that the federal government will require insurance companies to cover expenses related to in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments if he is elected in November.

The 45th president’s news came during the Pottersville, Michigan, event that has received much attention from American families.

“I’m announcing today in a major statement that under the Trump administration, your government will pay for, or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for, all costs associated with IVF treatments, fertilization for women,” Trump said during his remarks.

He added that it is “because we want more babies, to put it very nicely,” adding, “And for the same reason, we will also allow new parents to deduct major newborn expenses from their taxes.”

Trump argued that the current costs of IVF are prohibitive for most American families. A single IVF cycle can cost up to $30,000, according to a Forbes report.

“The IVF treatments are expensive. It’s very hard for many people to do it and to get it,” he noted.

“But I’ve been in favor of IVF right from the beginning. If you talk to [Democrats], they’ll say, ‘Oh, he really doesn’t like it.’ They have ads that I’m against it. It’s just the opposite. By comparison, they’re against it. But I’m totally in favor of it. But we’re going to do what I just said. We’re going to pay for it,” he continued.

“It will help families because a lot of families can’t use it, and a lot of these same families have been hurt so badly by their inflation. They caused the inflation, and we are going to pay for the IVF treatments. We’re going to pay for it and take care of it,” Trump said.

The announcement follows efforts by Democrats to blame Republicans for being a threat to women after a February ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court that stated IVF embryos are children.

In addition, the policy news came on the same day that Gov. Tim Walz, the running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris, was questioned during a CNN interview by Dana Bash about his lies that his family used IVF. It was later discovered that his family did not use the procedure.

Walz did not provide a clear response to Bash’s question, despite the direct request for the truth about his prior statements.
