President Donald Trump’s campaign referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as the “most anti-police” candidate in the nation’s history.

Trump’s campaign shared the claim in a news release announcing the 45th president’s speaking event in Howell, Michigan, on Tuesday and his strong support law enforcement groups.

“Harris is the most anti-police major party presidential candidate in history. She cheered on the Defund the Police movement, called for redirecting “resources” from police, and fundraised for violent rioters,” the statement said.

The campaign statement argued that Trump wants to “overfund” the police and supports cash bail, a policy Harris wants to end.

“President Trump wants to ‘overfund’ the police. He supports cash bail, which Kamala Harris wants to eliminate in order to free criminals into neighborhoods,” it added.

Trump’s campaign highlighted the widespread support from police organizations, “including the National Association of Police Organizations, the board of the International Union of Police Associations, the Florida Police Benevolent Association, the Police Officers Association of Michigan.”

The Milwaukee Police Association is among the organizations endorsing Trump, referring to the decision as a “matter of life and death.”

“The Milwaukee Police Association believes the solution to these challenges are possible. That’s why we are endorsing the Presidential ticket of Donald Trump and JD Vance,” the letter of endorsement stated.

“Addressing these issues isn’t political — it is truly is a matter of life and death to Milwaukee,” the endorsement concluded.

The Trump campaign’s statement also expressed the concerns Americans have about crime, including:

  • At the end of 2023, 63 percent of Americans said crime is an “extremely” or “very” serious problem in the U.S., the highest percentage since Gallup started asking the question.
  • 77 percent of Americans believe there is more crime in the U.S. than a year ago.
  • 46 percent of voters believe Republicans do a better job handling crime, compared to only 20 percent who said Democrats, according to an NBC News poll.

Trump’s Tuesday speech in Michigan will focus on public safety as he continues to address his agenda for strong law enforcement to help reduce crime.
