President Trump on Tuesday announced official preparations that are in progress for the U.S. to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared his remarks highlighting the importance of the event and sharing the steps the federal government will take in preparation.

“I want to thank you all for being here as we take a major step to ensure the United States is fully prepared to welcome the world to Los Angeles for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games,” Trump said.

Trump described the process of scheduling the Olympics in Los Angeles, saying it was a “very exciting day of my life when we got nominated and we ultimately got it.”

Los Angeles was chosen as the location for the 2028 Olympics during Trump’s first term as president.

Trump joked about the ups and downs he had experienced since the nomination process, and the uncertainty of whether or not he would be in office at the time the Olympics were held.

“I didn’t think I’d be here for the games in this capacity but it worked out that way, so I’m very happy about that,” Trump said. “I had no idea that was going to happen. When we got it, I said, it’s too bad I won’t be president then, but we took a very circuitous route didn’t we?” Trump said.

Trump shared how his administration played a role in bringing the 2028 Olympics to Los Angeles and stressed that his administration would carry out high-level preparations to make sure the games were safe and successful.

“My first term we were instrumental in helping to save Los Angeles win the bid to bring the Olympic torch back to American soil. Today I will sign an executive order establishing the White House task force on the 2028 Summer Olympics, mobilizing the entire federal government to ensure the games are safe, seamless and historically successful. It’s going to be amazing.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared a statement on Monday noting how the event is of particular significance for President Trump due to his love of sports. “Sports is one of President Trump’s greatest passions, and his athletic expertise, combined with his unmatched hospitality experience will make these Olympic events the most exciting and memorable in history,” Leavitt said.

The Olympic Games are set to be held in Los Angeles from July 14 through July 30, 2028.
