President Donald Trump was unanimously elected as the chairman of the Kennedy Center board of trustees, the president announced on social media Wednesday.

Trump shared a brief statement to his Truth Social account, calling the selection to the board leadership role a “Great Honor.”

“President Donald J. Trump was just unanimously elected Chairman of the Board of the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The President stated, ‘It is a Great Honor to be Chairman of The Kennedy Center, especially with this amazing Board of Trustees. We will make The Kennedy Center a very special and exciting place!’” the statement read.

The move comes after Trump announced last week that he would serve in the role, replacing Chairman David Rubenstein.

“At my direction, we are going to make the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., GREAT AGAIN. I have decided to immediately terminate multiple individuals from the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture. We will soon announce a new Board, with an amazing Chairman, DONALD J. TRUMP!” the president previously wrote on Truth Social.

“Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth — THIS WILL STOP. The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation. For the Kennedy Center, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!” he continued.

Several current board members left following the news of Trump’s addition to the board. The president replaced them with new board members, including singer Lee Greenwood, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and second lady Usha Vance, according to Just the News.

Kennedy Center President Deborah Rutter was also released from her role on Wednesday.

At least three board members have announced their resignation. They include television writer and producer Shonda Rhimes, musician Ben Folds and opera singer and actress Renée Fleming, The Hill reported.

Richard Grenell was also announced as the interim Kennedy Center president as part of the multiple leadership changes at the organization this week.
