Dr. Ben Carson rejoins President Trump’s administration in a Department of Agriculture advisory role.

This is not Carson’s first time working in President Trump’s administration. During President Trump’s first term, Carson headed up the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Breitbart reported that on Wednesday, Carson was sworn in as an official member of the USDA team by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. His new role puts him as an advisor for nutrition, health, and housing.

Previously serving as the director of pediatric surgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for nearly three decades, Carson is a strong addition to President Trump’s administration. He is known for being the first neurosurgeon to successfully perform the first separation of craniopagus twins conjoined at the back of the head in 1987.

During his swearing-in ceremony, an official press release revealed that Rollins had said, “There is no one more qualified than Dr. Carson to advise on policies that improve Americans’ everyday quality of life, from nutrition to healthcare quality to ensuring families have access to safe and stable housing.”

“We are honored to welcome him to the second Trump Administration to help lead our efforts here at USDA to Make America Healthy Again and ensure rural America continues to prosper,” said Rollins.

As a neurosurgeon for over 30 years who has performed many successful and groundbreaking surgeries, Carson will bring this experience to advise on nutrition and rural healthcare quality policies.

During the ceremony, Carson gracefully accepted his position and said, “Today, too many Americans are suffering from the effects of poor nutrition. Through common-sense policymaking, we have an opportunity to give our most vulnerable families the tools they need to flourish.”

He added, “I am honored to work with Secretary Rollins on these important initiatives to help fulfill President Trump’s vision for a healthier, stronger America.”

Breitbart reported that earlier this week, President Trump announced that he would award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Carson. In his speech during an event at Mount Vernon for the American Cornerstone Institute that was founded by Carson, President Trump had told listeners, “Congratulations, Ben. He didn’t know this. I hope he’s happy.”
