A new poll conducted by McLaughlin and Summit Ministries in the month of October reveals that almost three-quarters of American citizens believe their rights and freedoms come from God and not from the government.

McLaughlin and Summit’s poll shows that the October poll surveyed 1,000 general election voters with an accuracy of +/- 3.1 percent at a 95 percent confidence interval. The accuracy of this poll highlights the importance of personal freedoms and individual rights.
On a political breakdown, the results show bipartisan support for an individual’s rights established by God and not the government. 80 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of Independents, and 51 percent of Democrats all responded to the poll by affirming Americans’ rights are given by the Creator and not by the government.
Participants in the survey were also asked whether the government has the right to force American citizens to engage in activities that go against their religious beliefs. Three out of four Americans surveyed said the government does not have the right to force people to act in violation of their religious beliefs.

The poll once again showed bipartisan support for individual rights. 84 percent of Republicans, 78 percent of Independents, and 64 percent of Democrats do not believe the government has the right to force people to go against their religious beliefs.
The issue of personal rights and individual freedoms has become a hot topic issue in the past several months, as Americans have seen the erosion of many of their personal rights. This has led to the question whether a person’s rights and freedoms come from God or from the government.
The founding fathers of this nation believed that an individual’s rights were not determined by the government but by the Creator. America was clearly founded on the idea that every citizen is, “Endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” The results of this poll show that most Americans still share this same opinion of the founding fathers.

President Trump promoted this message of individual freedom by stating several times that, “In America, we don’t worship government, we worship God.” Americans continue to believe in this message despite the daily announcements of government mandates and encroachments on the rights of American citizens.
However, the media portrays an individual’s rights in a vastly different way than the American people believe. The media attempts to convince Americans that their rights are determined by the government, specifically by the mandates of the Biden administration. However, this poll shows that most Americans do not share the opinion of the news media and the Biden administration.
Dr. Jeff Myers from Summit Ministries believes there is a “widening gap” between the media and the American people. He writes:
