Retired New York Police Department Lieutenant, Gulf War veteran and 9/11 first responder Sammy Ravelo walked away from the Democratic Party and endorsed President Donald Trump.
On Sunday, he posted a picture to X of himself endorsing Trump at the Dominicans for Trump rally in Manhattan. He captioned it, “Yesterday, I left the Democrat party, and the sky didn’t fall.”
He urged his local friends and family members to re-register as Republicans because “It’s time to leave the party that favors criminals over law-abiding citizens. If you are a Dominican cop, firefighter, correction officer, or sanitation worker, you should be a Republican.”
He concluded, “The Democrat party is no longer a viable party for us.”
Ravelo is a Dominican American who previously ran for local office as a Democrat in 2021, per Ballotpedia. He sought the office of Bronx Burough President but was unsuccessful.
After three-plus years of the Biden-Harris administration, Ravelo has spearheaded the Dominicans for Trump movement, posting MAGA content leading up to his official party switch and Trump endorsement.
On Sept. 21 Ravelo headlined the Dominicans for Trump rally in Manhattan. The day before the event, he posted on X, “This event has triggered so many liberals that they’ve even planned a counter-rally.”
“Let’s send a loud message that our community is done with their woke ideology,” he added.
During an interview on Via Lactea Media, he spoke about the Dominicans for Trump movement. According to the English translation subtitles he noted, “We support Donald Trump’s candidacy, we believe that the interests of the Dominicans lie more with Donald Trump and the Republicans than with Kamala Harris.”
“We see that the Democrats have begun to take many ultra-left policies that do not go with Domicanness,” he added.
