While greeting Joe Biden in El Paso, Texas, on Sunday, Gov. Gregg Abbott, R-Texas, handed Biden a scorching letter with written demands to secure the border. Biden’s visit to the Lone Star State marks his first appearance at the border as president.

According to a press release, Abbott met Biden on the tarmac of the El Paso International Airport Sunday and handed him a letter with specific actions he must take to regain control of the southern border.

“Your visit to our southern border with Mexico today is $20 billion too little and two years too late,” the letter stated before condemning Biden’s nonchalant attitude towards the chaos brewing at the border. “This chaos is the direct result of your failure to enforce the immigration laws that Congress enacted.”

On the other hand, Abbott praised President Donald Trump, writing that the government was able to achieve “historically low levels of illegal immigration” under his administration.

The letter continued, “Your open-border policies have emboldened the cartels, who grow wealthy by trafficking deadly fentanyl and even human beings. Texans are paying an especially high price for your failure, sometimes with their very lives, as local leaders from your own party will tell you if given the chance.”

Moreover, Abbott listed five actions Biden must take to secure the border, such as complying with statutes concerning the detainment of illegal immigrants, enforcing the “Remain in Mexico” policy and the Title 42 expulsions, prosecuting illegal immigration and allowing ICE officials to remove migrants, resuming the construction of the border wall, and designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

With the GOP’s House majority in 2023, Texas Republican lawmakers remain committed to pushing for solutions to combat the crisis at the border and hold the federal government accountable, as reported by RSBN.

According to the Washington Examiner, Rep. Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, said last month: “With this new Republican majority in the House, our Texas delegation is committed to using every tool and authority at our disposal to hold President Biden, Secretary Mayorkas, and this entire administration responsible for their dereliction of duty, to support our state leaders and their efforts to defend Texas in the face of this clear and imminent danger, and to put policies and this framework in place that will protect our citizens and secure our sovereign border.”
