Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, is taking “unprecedented measures” against Democrats’ disastrous border policies by invoking the Invasion Clauses from the U.S. and Texas Constitutions and officially declaring the crisis at the border an invasion.
According to Chron, the newly reelected governor sent a letter Monday to judges along the southern border, announcing he will “fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion.”
The letter provided a detailed framework that the Lone Star State will be implementing to “keep the state and country safe,” including deploying the National Guard to turn back migrants attempting to cross the border illegally, directing the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to arrest and deport illegal immigrants, and designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
“In my Executive Order GA-41, I invoked the Invasion Clauses of Article I, § 10 of the U.S. Constitution and Article IV, § 7 of the Texas Constitution to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to fight back against the invasion at our border,” Abbott stated.
Abbott also called for Congress to take measures to secure the border and insisted it “should reimburse the State of Texas for the billions of dollars we have had to spend on border security in the Biden Administration’s absence.”
“Federal officials who will not faithfully execute the immigrations laws should face hearings and even impeachment,” the governor added.
The new development comes after Abbott announced the 300th bus overflowing with migrants left the Lone Star State for Chicago as Joe Biden and his administration continue to pass over the crisis at the border, Fox News reported.
“The 300th Texas bus of migrants just left for Chicago,” Abbott posted on Twitter. “As Biden does nothing, Texas will continue taking unprecedented action to relieve our overwhelmed border communities & secure the border.”
