Amid a new administration’s historic transition into the White House, a new survey revealed how President Donald Trump and Joe Biden are perceived by Americans.
As Biden’s term expires, he will leave office with the second-lowest favorability rating for a president in at least 44 years, a new CBS News survey reported.
Only 37 percent of Americans classified Biden’s presidency positively, the CBS News poll found, compared to 63 percent who negatively viewed his time in office.
Additionally, Biden’s tenure was ranked lower than every president’s (with the exception of George W. Bush) since Jimmy Carter, leaving office with far less favorability than the three preceding Democrats.
With Democrats increasingly worrying about Biden’s cognitive abilities, coinciding with low marks on immigration, foreign policy, and the economy, he suspended his reelection campaign, and instead backed his vice president, Kamala Harris.
Harris ultimately lost to President Trump and holds approval only marginally higher than Biden, the survey found. As the outgoing vice president leaves office, only 43 percent of Americans approve of her tenure, CBS News reported.
President Trump’s presidency will begin with high marks, with 53 percent of those polled favoring his time as president-elect, compared to 39 percent disapproving, a new Harvard-Harris poll found.
The president’s numbers are also currently much higher than when he left the White House in 2021, the conclusion of his first term.
President Donald Trump will take the oath of office on January 20, 2025, at noon Eastern.
