Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., has drafted up a subpoena for Hunter Biden in relation to the House’s investigation into Joe Biden’s alleged criminal schemes, he announced on Tuesday.
Rep. Gaetz, who has been highly critical of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., over the past few weeks, asked the House leader to sign the letter.
On X, he explained, “.@SpeakerMcCarthy, after eight months of inaction, I have taken the liberty of drafting a subpoena to Hunter Biden. It simply requires your date and signature. Millions of Americans are wondering if you’re serious.”
The letter addressed to Robert Hunter Biden asked for the production of “relevant documentary material as set forth on the attached schedule, followed by your participation in one or more days of deposition testimony.”
He noted that the deposition would be led by the professional staff of the Judiciary Committee. In terms of what Gaetz asked for in the subpoena, he included email correspondence records between Joe Biden and Hunter between January 2008 and the present date.
He also asked for business emails from 2008 and onward, text messages, photos, videos, phone call logs, call details, documents, contracts, agreements, financial records, and communications related to various alleged business dealings, partnerships, and ventures.
Rep. Gaetz’s drafted subpoena for Biden also comes as rumors have swirled recently that the fiery young congressman could run for the Florida governorship in 2026.
These rumors emerged after NBC pointed to several people at a Sunday political event in Tallahassee as their source, Axios reported. According the outlet, Gaetz said of the rumors, “I ran into dozens of former colleagues from my days in the state legislature. They encouraged me relentlessly to consider returning to Florida. I wasn’t focused on any of that talk, though.”
While that was not an explicit denial, it may put to rest the rumors for now. Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., will finish his second term in Florida if his presidential bid in 2024 is unsuccessful.
