Biden announced more economic sanctions against Russia from the U.S. and Western countries amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine last night.
During Biden’s address to the nation, he said that he would make Putin a “pariah on the international stage” and that Russia was the clear aggressor in the situation. “Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war. And now he and his country will bear the consequences,” Biden said.
The president also went into detail about new sanctions he’s imposing on Russia, including exports of U.S. goods. Biden also announced the U.S. will send troops to Germany, and a NATO alliance will convene this upcoming Friday to discuss “next steps.”
“Let me say it again: Our forces are not — and will not — be engaged in the conflict with Russia in Ukraine,” Biden reaffirmed.
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that “dozens” of Ukrainian troops have been killed since the invasion began.
Biden condemned the Russian attack on the country and said that Putin decided to engage in “a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.”
International support is outpouring for the country of Ukraine, and even civilians in Russia are condemning this senseless war inflicted upon the Ukrainian people.
Biden’s remarks came after a meeting with international leaders, many of whom have also come out to condemn Russia publicly and voice their support for Ukraine. Biden also met with his National Security Council this afternoon to discuss the ongoing situation across the world.
The Biden administration warned that any other tactics that Russia uses on Ukraine would result in more severe consequences.
