The Keystone State has netted a big win for election integrity this month, ensuring that dated signature requirements will be mandated for mail-in ballots, according to a new court ruling.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) released a statement on the ruling, which was handed down by an appeals court. The RNC responded:
“This is a crucial victory for election integrity and voter confidence in the Keystone State and nationwide. Pennsylvanians deserve to feel confident in the security of their mail ballots, and this 3rd Circuit ruling roundly rejects unlawful left-wing attempts to count undated or incorrectly dated mail ballots. Republicans will continue to fight and win for election integrity in courts across the country ahead of the 2024 election.”
According to Breitbart, the decision was 2-1 and effectively mandated dated signature requirements for mail-in ballots, which means that voters must date their envelopes along with their signatures in order to render their ballot valid.
This victory is the climactic conclusion of a two-year battle at the behest of the RNC, who initially won in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on the issue of signature verification in 2022.
However, as the RNC’s official statement noted, one year later, a federal district court “struck down the dated signature requirement in November 2023.” The RNC appealed that decision, and the March appeals ruling is the result.
Via the ruling, “The Pennsylvania General Assembly has decided that mail-in voters must date the declaration on the return envelope of their ballot to make their vote effective.”
The RNC noted that they have “engaged in 81 cases of election integrity litigation this cycle alone with more to come.”
The RNC’s election integrity action is being spearheaded by a new crew of leaders, including Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chair Lara Trump. Former Trump attorney Christina Bobb has also joined the RNC as special counsel for election integrity.
